Turnover accommodation and food services up by nearly 3 percent in Q3
Relative to Q3 2021, turnover in the accommodation and food services sector was 21.7 percent higher. The volume was 11.9 percent higher. Last year, however, the sector was still affected by coronavirus measures during the third quarter.

More turnover hotels
Seasonally adjusted turnover in accommodation services, including hotels and holiday parks, rose by 7 percent on the previous quarter in Q3 2022. Hotels had 10.8 percent more turnover than in the previous quarter. Both the number of overnight stays and prices increased. The turnover of other accommodation services including holiday parks and campsites decreased by 2.2 percent.
Turnover of food and beverage outlets increased by 1.1 percent compared to the previous quarter. Canteens and catering achieved 5.2 percent more turnover. Turnover of fast food restaurants (including snack bars and cafeterias) increased by 1.9 percent. Restaurants achieved the same turnover as in the previous quarter, while turnover of cafés decreased by 0.9 percent.

Turnover in accommodation and food services up by almost 22 percent year on year
In Q3 2022, turnover in accommodation and food services was 21.7 percent up on the same quarter of 2021. The substantial growth is partly due to the fact that the sector was still affected by some coronavirus measures during the third quarter of last year and to price increases.
Hotels recorded 54.3 percent more turnover in Q3 than one year previously. Holiday accommodation rental companies and camping sites recorded a turnover increase of 7.6 percent compared to Q3 2021.
The year-on-year turnover increase at cafés was 20.6 percent in Q3. Restaurants achieved 10.9 percent more turnover year on year. Fast food restaurants recorded a year-on-year turnover increase of 13.2 percent. Finally, canteens and catering achieved 38.5 percent more turnover than one year previously. This is the largest turnover increase of all industries in the accommodation and food services sector, after hotels.

Sharp turn in sentiment among hotel and catering entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurial confidence in accommodation and food services declined further at the beginning of Q4 2022. Confidence fell from 15.5 at the beginning of Q3 to -12.2 at the beginning of Q4. It was the strongest decline of any industry. Relative to the previous quarter, entrepreneurs in the sector were more pessimistic about turnover and the economic climate for the next three months.
