The Dutch Sustainability Monitor provides an account of sustainability in the Netherlands according to three different aspects: quality of life (‘here and now’), resources (‘later’) and the Netherlands’ ranking in the world (‘elsewhere’).
This Monitor was presented to the Dutch House of Representatives on 17 May 2017 in the context of ‘Accountability Day’. It describes the extent to which the Netherlands is developing sustainably. This includes the long-term trend as well as the country’s ranking among all countries in the European Union. The three aspects refer to the Brundtland definition of sustainability: ‘[…] Quality of life which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs or affecting the quality of life in other (developing) countries on balance.’
