Retail turnover up by almost 4 percent in January

The figures for retail turnover have been adjusted for calendar days in January, because more is sold on certain days of the week than on other days. Without such an adjustment, retail turnover in January 2025 would have been 5.3 percent higher than one year previously.

Turnover in non-food sector up by nearly 3 percent
Turnover in the non-food sector was up by 2.9 percent in January, year on year. Sales volume (turnover adjusted for price changes) was up by 2.8 percent on January 2024.
Chemist, shops selling footwear and leather products, shops selling DIY products (including kitchens and flooring), shops selling recreational goods and clothes shops saw year-on-year turnover growth in January. However, shops selling home furnishings and those selling consumer electronics and white good recorded a decrease in turnover.
Turnover in food sector up by over 5 percent
Turnover in shops selling food, beverages and tobacco was up by 5.3 percent in January, year on year. Sales volume was 0.5 percent higher. Turnover in supermarkets was up by 4.9 percent, and turnover in specialty shops was up by 8.0 percent.
Online turnover 5.1 percent higher
Turnover among online retailers was up by 5.1 percent in January, year on year. Online retailers (whose core activity is selling goods and services over the internet) recorded an increase in turnover of 7.9 percent. Meanwhile, multi-channel retailers (retailers selling goods and services over the internet as a secondary activity) saw a 1.0 percent increase in in their online sales.
Online turnover for food and personal care products, for other non-food products, for consumer electronics and for clothing and fashion items was higher in January 2025 than it was one year previously.
