High-impact crimes (HICs) include residential burglary, armed robbery, street crime and violent crime. These crimes have many similarities, both in the nature of the crimes committed, the type of offenders involved and the way in which the crimes are handled by the police. HICs have a significant societal impact, not only on the victims but also on the neighbourhoods in which they occur. People are more likely to feel unsafe when there is a high incidence of HICs.
