Ukrainian refugees
CBS bases the number of Ukrainian refugees residing in the Netherlands on the Personal Records Database (BRP), with a reference date of 1 November 2024. The figures include Ukrainian refugees who arrived in the Netherlands after 24 February 2022 (start of the war in Ukraine) and were still registered in the BRP on 1 November 2024. This only includes persons with Ukrainian nationality. Those without Ukrainian nationality but who give Ukraine as their country of origin are not part of the population included in this news article. People may leave the Netherlands without deregistering, so it is possible that this is an overestimate of the number of residents and an underestimate of the percentage of people in employment.
The employee data have been taken from the administrative records of the Employee Insurance Agency (UWV), which is based on all payroll tax returns filed with the Tax Administration. The data from the administrative records have been anonymised and have a reference date of 31 October 2024. All Ukrainian refugees who are in paid employment in the Netherlands are included in these administrative records. The figures shown here are the result of linking the administrative records and the Personal Records Database. In this way, the labour market can be studied at the level of the individual using characteristics from the Personal Records Database (e.g. sex and age).
