Export earnings

The net value that the Dutch economy derives from exports. This is the export value minus the value of the inputs required throughout the entire production chain in the Netherlands in order to produce those exports.

The figures are lower than reported in previous years because for the first time the export flow of ‘production abroad’ can be omitted from the figures. This flow counts as exports according to the ownership principle, but because in this publication we mainly view exports according to ‘border crossing’ principle, ‘production abroad’ is not counted now. Production abroad refers to exports by Dutch companies abroad to another foreign country and thus these exports do not cross the Dutch border.
