Up to the 2013/’14 academic year, a secondary school advice was given to pupils in the final year of primary school, after they had completed a primary school leavers attainment test. Since 2014/’15, pupils are given a secondary school advice from the teacher before the final test is taken. That advice is based on a pupil’s learning achievements, aptitude and personal development during primary school, among other factors. If a pupil received a higher level from the attainment test, the primary school must reconsider their advice (Government of the Netherlands, 2024). This reconsideration may result in the school advice being revised upwards.
