2024 edition of the Report on Integration and Society
This news release looked at figures showing to what extent household income plays a role in the differences between groups of different ethnic origin. Students in higher-income households perform better in school than those whose families live on a lower income, on average. When household income is taken into account, the difference in school performance between groups of different ethnic origin has become smaller. In some cases the differences have disappeared, but generally they remain visible. For example, while students with a non-European background living in households with an average income are more likely to pass the school leaving exams than those with a non-European background whose families live on a lower income, their success rate is still below average.
