The business confidence indicator reflects the mood among business owners in the private sector (excluding the financial sector) in the Netherlands. The index is compiled for each individual sector, on the basis of survey questions about recent developments and expectations among entrepreneurs. The same questions are asked across every sector, and concern current economic circumstances.
Business confidence is compiled using a weighted average of business confidence in each sector. The questions used to gauge business confidence are taken from the Netherlands Business Survey (COEN). This survey is conducted among enterprises with 5 or more employees in the private sector (excluding the financial sector; i.e. banks, insurance companies and pension funds).
