Social housing and private sector housing

The net rental price at the beginning of the tenancy agreement determines whether a rental property is part of the private sector. If the rent is above the ‘liberalisation threshold’, the property is classified as private sector. If the rent is below this limit, the property is a social rental property. In 2024, the limit was set at 879.66 euros per month. Just as social housing, private sector housing can be owned by other landlords or by social sector landlords.
