Family migrant
Family migration consists of family reunification and family formation.
Family reunification refers to the settlement in the Netherlands of persons from families that already existed before migrating; one or more family members come to live with family members who have already moved to the Netherlands.
Family migrants may include:
- (married) partners;
- minor children (not married; no registered partnership);
- parents who want to live with their children.
Family reunification often occurs after labour migration or asylum migration.
Family formation refers to the settlement in the Netherlands of persons who intend to marry, enter into a partnership with, or cohabit with a partner who already lives in the Netherlands and with whom the person has never previously cohabited.
