Economic independence is a concept which, for policy purposes, is associated with the minimum subsistence level. A person is considered economically independent if his or her annual net income from employment and self-employment reaches or exceeds the threshold used to measure the minimum income standard. That threshold is set at 70 percent of the statutory net minimum wage, or the net income support entitlement for a one-person household in a given reporting year. In 2022, the threshhold for economic independence was 1,100 euros per month.
