Residential youth assistance

Support and care as intended and described in the Child and Youth Act. This involves support and care offered to young people and their parents in cases of psychological, psychosocial and/or behavioural problems, a mental disability, or parenting problems.

The young person resides in a foster family or home, residential or treatment group, secure institution, mental health institution or a similar location where youth assistance is provided. In other words, the young person does not sleep at his or her family home. As such, this refers only to those forms of residence that include an overnight stay.

Staying in a residential hostel, even only during weekends or during the week, is also classified as residential youth assistance.
