Young people not in work
Young people not in work
In this article, young people are divided into four groups depending on their relationship to the labour market:
1) Young people in work (young people who are in paid work, regardless of how many hours they work, even if they work only 1 hour per week; this includes part-time jobs and paid internships). The number in this group was nearly 1.7 million in 2023.
2) Unemployed young people (young people who have recently been seeking work and are available for work immediately). The number in this group was 149 thousand in 2023.
3) Semi-unemployed young people (young people who either have recently been seeking work or are available for work immediately). The number in this group was 94 thousand in 2023.
4) Young people who have not been seeking work and are unavailable for work. The number in this group was 268 thousand in 2023.
People who have either been seeking work recently or are available for work immediately are counted when calculating unused labour potential. This includes unemployed people. Unused labour potential also includes part-time workers who would like to work more hours and are available to do so immediately. Unlike the unemployed and the semi-unemployed, they are in paid work.
