In describing the labour market position of couples, the population usually referred to is that of the employed and the non-employed labour force. This means that both persons live in the Netherlands (excluding the institutional population) and are aged 15 to 74.
In 2023, 99.3 percent of couples with children aged under 18 were male-female couples. In 0.7 percent of these couples, both parents were women, and in less than 0.05 percent both were men.
