Smaller year-on-year decrease in crude oil prices
Output prices are strongly affected by crude oil price developments. In December 2023, a barrel of North Sea Brent oil cost nearly 71 euros, 8 percent less than one year previously. In November, the average price of a barrel stood at almost 76 euros, i.e., 15 percent less than one year previously.
Year on year, prices of petroleum derivatives were down by 7.7 percent in December, while in November they were 12.9 percent lower. In the chemical industry as well, output prices are generally linked to crude oil price developments. Output prices of chemical products were 14.5 percent lower than they were in December 2022. In November, they were down by 15.1 percent year on year.

Manufacturing output prices fell in December
Relative to November, output prices fell by 1.2 percent in December. Prices on the export market decreased by 1.5 percent, while prices on the domestic market fell by 0.9 percent.
