Larger year-on-year decrease in crude oil prices
Output prices are strongly affected by crude oil price developments. In October 2023, a barrel of North Sea Brent oil cost nearly 84 euros, 12 percent less than one year previously. In September, the average price of a barrel stood at 86.5 euros, i.e. almost 5 percent less than in the same month last year.
In October, prices of petroleum derivatives were down by 18.1 percent year on year ; they were down by 3.5 percent in September. In the chemical industry as well, output prices are generally linked to crude oil price developments. Output prices of chemical products were 16.0 percent lower than in October 2022. In September, they were down by 17.5 percent year on year.

Manufacturing output prices fell in October
Relative to September, manufacturing output prices fell by 1.1 percent in October. Prices on the export market decreased by 1.6 percent, while prices on the domestic market decreased by 0.6 percent.
