Total of fatal drownings

These are all drownings, i.e., accidental drownings, drownings by suicide, drownings by transport accidents and other drownings added together.

These figures refer to deaths in the Netherlands with drowning as injury code T75.1 (ICD-10), regardless of the underlying cause of death. In this way, in addition to accidental drowning (W65-W74), suicide by drowning (X60-X84), transport accidents (V01-V99) and a remaining group with various causes (A00-Y99) are included. The residual group of drowning includes: drowned by homicide or manslaughter; persons whose accidental or intentional drowning is unknown; and persons who died more than 30 days after the drowning accident.

For non-residents drowned in the Netherlands, data selected from district court files were added.
