Age-standardised mortality rate
Number of deaths by cause-of-death category per 100 thousand inhabitants. To compare years, standardisation is done by converting figures from one year to another (standard) year based on age or sex. In this news release, the 2022 population age structure was used as the standard.
In the figure, mortality rates due to cause-of-death categories from the years 2015-2022 have been converted year by year, so that each year in this series contains the (virtual) figure: as if in the year in question the age structure is the same as in 2022. Standardisation takes into account differences in the age structure of the population over time, making the figures more comparable and showing a real increase or decrease.
