House price increase 21.1 percent in January

In January, owner-occupied dwellings (excluding new constructions) were on average 21.1 percent more expensive than in the same month last year. It is the largest price increase since the start of this statistic in 1995. This is evident from price monitoring of existing owner-occupied dwellings by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) and The Netherlands’ Cadastre, Land Registry and Mapping Agency.

Surging house prices

House prices reached a low in June 2013; they have followed an upward trend since then, reaching a new record level in November 2021. Compared to the low in June 2013, house prices were almost 91 percent higher on average in January.

According to The Netherlands’ Cadastre, the total number of transactions recorded over the month of January 2022 stood at 14,053. This is 43 percent lower than one year previously.
