For CBS’ tourism statistics, Dutch municipalities are classified into six different types of tourist areas: the coastal region, watersports areas, forest and heathland areas in the Central Netherlands region, forest and heathland areas in the Northeastern Netherlands region, forest and heathland areas in the southern Netherlands region and the remaining areas of the Netherlands. Whereas tourism data from accommodation providers in Scheveningen and Kijkduin (The Hague municipality) and Hoek van Holland (Rotterdam municipality) are classified under the Coastal region, the remainder of these two cities is not classified under this region. Data on crime in the cities of The Hague and Rotterdam are incorporated into the ‘Remaining areas of the Netherlands’.
