The emission intensity of the Dutch economy is equal to the amount of emissions per euro of gross domestic product (basic prices). In order to be consistent in the calculation of emission intensity of the various greenhouse gases, the IPCC emission values have been converted according to the definitions of the Environmental Accounts, in line with the definitions of the National Accounts which are applied in the calculation of GDP. Emissions from biomass and emissions from international flights and shipping are included in the Environmental Accounts, but not in calculations based on the IPCC method.
