Plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs)
Electric vehicles fully or partially driven by an electric motor, with a battery that can be recharged by plugging it into an external power source. This group comprises fully electric vehicles (FEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). Regular hybrid vehicles (HEVs) are not included in this category.
Fully electric vehicles (FEVs)
Electric vehicles fully driven by an electric motor instead of a fuel engine.
Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs)
Electric vehicles which combine an electric motor with a fuel engine, including a battery that can be re-charged at an external charging point. The electric motor is used as the main power source; the fuel engine takes over when the battery is empty.
