Largest turnover growth for fast food restaurants in 1.5 years
In Q2, turnover generated by food and beverage services (including restaurants, fast food restaurants, canteens, catering companies and cafes) rose by 2.3 percent relative to the previous quarter. The volume of sales increased by 2.0 percent. Fast food restaurants recorded the highest turnover growth (3.6 percent). It was also the highest growth for fast food restaurants in 1.5 years. Cafes, restaurants, canteens and catering also achieved turnover growth relative to the preceding quarter.

Turnover accommodation services also up in Q2
Relative to Q1 2018, accommodation services realised a turnover growth of 1.9 percent in the subsequent quarter. The volume of sales increased by 0.9 percent. Turnover generated by hotels grew by 2.1 percent. The volume increased by 0.5 percent. In the preceding quarter, the volume of hotels decreased by 0.3 percent.

Entrepreneurs positive despite rising staff shortages
Business confidence in the sector accommodation and food services has been positive for 4.5 consecutive years. On the other hand, more and more businesses in the sector accommodation and food services are impeded by staffing deficits. At the start of Q3, nearly 26 percent of entrepreneurs in this sector reported they were facing impediments in their business operations as a result of understaffing. The difficulty of finding suitable personnel is also evident from the record number of almost 23 thousand outstanding vacancies in the sector of accommodation and food services at the end of Q2.
With effect from the reporting quarter Q1 2018, this news release refers to accommodation services, including hotels, holiday homes and camping sites, and to food and beverage services, including restaurants, fast food restaurants, canteens, catering companies and cafes. Previously, this news release focused on the sector hotels and restaurants, traditionally comprising hotels, restaurants and cafes. Their turnover rose by 2.2 percent in Q2 2018.
