Immigrants who come to the Netherlands from within the EU are not required to go to Immigration and Naturalisation Services (IND). Therefore, their official migration motives are not registered. Statistics Netherlands determines their motives on the basis of which activities (labour, education etc.) EU immigrants pursue after they have arrived in the Netherlands, so that every EU migrant is assigned a certain migration motive. It is possible to have multiple migration motives per person.
A substantial part of EU family migrants quickly finds a job in the Netherlands. One in three of these migrants have paid work within four months of arriving, whether in employment or self-employment.
