House prices at all-time high in May
In August 2008, house prices reached a record high. Subsequently, they fell to a low in June 2013. Since then, the trend has been upward. In May 2018, house prices for the first time were higher (0.6 percent) than the record level of August 2008. The price index of owner-occupied houses therefore reached the highest level since the start of the index in 1995. Compared to the dip in June 2013, house prices are on average more than 28 percent higher.

House prices almost 9 percent higher in May
In May 2018, prices of owner-occupied houses (excluding new constructions) were on average 8.9 percent higher than in the same month last year. The price increase was slightly higher than in the previous two months.

Number of house sales down
According to figures released last Monday by the Dutch Land Registry Office, 18,237 houses were sold in May 2018. In the first five months of 2018, 86,609 houses were sold, a decrease of 6.5 percent compared to the same period in 2017.
