Dutch consumers equally positive in June

According to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), the mood among Dutch consumers has hardly changed in June 2018. The consumer confidence indicator remains at + 23. Willingness to buy has deteriorated marginally. Opinions of Dutch consumers on the economic climate are equally positive.

With a score of + 23 in June, the consumer confidence indicator is significantly above its long-term average over the past two decades (- 3). The indicator reached an all-time high in January 2000 (+ 36) and an all-time low in March 2013 (- 41). Consumer confidence has been above + 20 since the end of 2016.

Willingness to buy deteriorated marginally

Consumer confidence in the economic climate has not changed in June. This component indicator of consumer confidence stands at + 43. Opinions on the economic climate in the past twelve months have improved marginally, but consumers are slightly less positive about the economic climate in the coming twelve months.

Consumers’ willingness to buy has deteriorated marginally: + 9, down from +10 in May. Dutch consumers’ opinions about their personal financial situation has not changed. Consumers are slightly less positive about buying expensive, durable items compared to May.
