Pursuant to the Dutch Renewable Energy for Transport Order, suppliers of motor fuels are required to deliver a certain share of renewable energy to transport. This share is a percentage of the total volume of fuel and diesel supplied to road traffic and rail vehicles. This stood at 7 percent in 2016 and at 7.75 percent in 2017. Suppliers of motor fuels meet their obligation mainly by mixing biofuels with fossil fuels. Companies blending in fewer biofuels than the required percentage can still meet their obligation by transferring the ‘outperformance’ of other companies to their own administration.
