Asylum migrant

An asylum seeker, residence permit holder or invited refugee who has been entered in the municipal population register.

Not everyone who submits an asylum request is admitted to the Netherlands and registered as an immigrant in a municipal population register. Asylum migrants who are allowed to stay are registered only after some time after lodging an asylum request, i.e. when receiving a residence permit and moving out of the reception centre. In addition, asylum seekers who have stayed at a reception centre for more than six months are eligible for entry into a municipal population register. Those who live outside of a reception centre will be registered only if they are legally residing in the Netherlands.
