In 2016, the Dutch State secured a reduction in contributions following negotiations with the EU. This resulted in reimbursements over 2014 and 2015. These reimbursements were offset against contributions payable to the EU in Q1 2017. Up to that moment, the Dutch State had a net receivable on the EU. The reduction had a positive effect on the general government balance in 2016, the year in which the agreement was reached. It will not have any effect on the balance for 2017.
