The greenhouse gas intensity of a particular industry is an environmental efficiency indicator and has been defined as the greenhouse gas emission level per unit of value added. In order to be consistent in calculating emission intensity of the various greenhouse gases, IPCC emissions have been converted according to the definitions of the Environmental accounts. These tie in with the definitions used in the National accounts which are used to calculate the value added per industry. The difference between CO2 emissions according to the IPCC versus those in the Environmental accounts is explained in the Environmental Data Compendium (Dutch only).
