Immigrants
The figures in this article are related to persons who are registered in the Dutch Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP). Registrations may include new born children or persons who migrate from abroad to the Netherlands (immigration). Immigrants are registered if the expected duration of their stay in the Netherlands in the six months from the time of settlement is at least four months. Asylum seekers are generally registered in a Dutch municipality when they obtain a residence permit and are provided housing after residing at a reception centre. Asylum seekers who are residing at a reception centre can be registered in a municipality after having been in the Netherlands for six months, even if they have not yet obtained a residence permit.
Deregistration occurs if a person deceases or if he or she moves abroad. In the latter case the expected stay abroad in the year following departure shall be at least eight months.
The figures for 2017 are provisional.
