Dementia (ICD-10 codes: F01-F03, G30-G31) is currently the primary cause of death in the Netherlands. Dementia is a brain disease characterised by more than one cognitive disorder (e.g. reduced memory, mental capacity, linguistic capacity or recognition of objects or faces). When accompanied by behavioural problems or self-care problems, this is called a demential syndrome (ICD-10 code: F03). Specific forms of dementia have their own ICD-10 codes. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimer’s Disease.
