Passenger kilometres

Graphs which include distances covered by motorists refer to the period 2012-2015. This is the average number of kilometres covered by one Dutch resident within country borders during one day or during one year. Domestic and international travel by commuters and holidaymakers is not included. Trips across borders are therefore cut off as kilometres travelled abroad are not taken into consideration.

The graph showing the number of traffic deaths among motorists, by age, gives the average number of kilometres travelled per day by one Dutch resident per age group (excluding persons residing in institutions or homes) across all provinces of the Netherlands.

The graph on number of traffic deaths among motorists, by time of day, gives the average number of kilometres travelled by car per driver per unit of time.

The graph on number of traffic deaths among motorists, by province, gives the average number of kilometres travelled (in billion km) through each province by motorists.

Calculation of passenger kilometres travelled per year is based on research results from the Dutch Mobility Survey (OViN).
