In response to a series of earthquakes, a production ceiling was introduced for the province of Groningen. In the period 2015/’16 (1 October 2015–30 September 2016) 26.98 bn cubic metres were extracted from the natural gas reserve in Groningen, which is within the limits set by the Council of State on 27 November 2015. The production ceiling for the current gas year was set at 24 bn cubic metres, whereas the volume of natural gas extracted in Groningen in 2013 was 55 bn cubic metres.
