Emigration refers to the act of leaving one's own country to settle permanently in another. People are deregistered if the anticipated length of stay abroad exceeds eight months. Emigration is reported to the municipal authorities. For this survey, a group of emigrants who had moved to the UK between 2011 and 2015 and had not returned to the Netherlands on 31 December 2015 was selected.
