Family is the main source of comfort and support
Almost everyone in the Netherlands has a social network to which they can turn for practical, personal or financial support. The main source of aid is provided by close family members, followed by friends. People turn less often to neighbours and acquaintances. They only turn to neighbours relatively often for matters in and around the house, such as DIY or looking after the house when they are away. Are men and women equally able to draw on support for practical, personal or financial issues? And is there a difference between old en young people in who they turn to? You can read more about these issues in the article published by Statistics Netherlands today.
