Emigration plans
The data are based upon the Family Formation Survey 2013/Gender and Generations Survey conducted by CBS/NIDI. More than 6.5 thousand 18 to 62-year-olds were asked whether they had plans to move abroad for a period of at leastt 8 months.
Potential emigrants were asked why they wanted to move abroad. In 2013, these reasons were one by one submitted to the respondents. When potential emigrants had more than one reason, they were asked to report the most important reason. In 2008, they were only asked to state the most important reason.
Lastly, respondents were asked whether they had the intention to return to the Netherlands.
A native Dutch person is defined as a person whose parents were both born in the Netherlands, irrespective of the county where that person him/herself is born.
