According to a recent study by Statistics Netherlands, companies that are part of a large Dutch or foreign-owned concern account for three-quarters of the export value of goods exported by the Dutch private sector.
Medium-sized and small companies account for one quarter of exports
Companies that are not part of a large concern (medium-sized and small enterprises) account for one quarter of the export value, while this sector comprises 99 percent of all companies in the Netherlands. By far most of these companies - butchers, greengrocers and contractors, for example - are not export-oriented. Smaller businesses usually do not have a network of a large mother concern with extra access to knowledge, contacts and finance.
