Birth control methods
The figures presented in this article are based upon the new Family Formation Survey conducted by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) and the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI). The survey is held every five years and was conducted in the period April-October 2013. More than 10 thousand people in the age category 18-79 participated in the survey. The survey is compared with the Family Formation Survey from 2003.
The objective of the Family Formation Survey is to gather information about the most recent developments regarding relation and family planning in the Netherlands and the backgrounds of this phenomenon.
Respondents in the age category 18-44 were invited to provide information about the birth control methods they use in order to chart the methods women use to prevent them from becoming pregnant.
In this survey, abortion is not defined as a birth control method.
