More unemployed
Adjusted for seasonal variation, 668 thousand people in the Netherlands were unemployed in December 2013, i.e. 15 thousand more than in November. After a peak in July, unemployment had been in decline. In December, 8.5 percent in the Dutch labour force were unemployed. The unemployment rate among men (8.2) is somewhat lower than among women (8.7).
Seasonally adjusted unemployment
With 287 thousand, unemployment was highest among 25 to 44-year-olds in December. The number of unemployed 45 to 64-year-olds amounted to 248 thousand, whereas youth unemployment stood at 133 thousand. Proportionally, unemployment was highest among young people. The rate among 15 to 24-year-olds was 15.9 percent.
