Practical component
All vocational programmes comprise a practical component. There are two types of practical components:
- A traineeship, where a student works under supervision at a company for a maximum of twelve months. Students in the school-based track (bol) of senior secondary vocational education (mbo) and in the full-time programmes of higher professional education (hbo) have to complete such a traineeship.
- An apprenticeship. Students in the apprenticeship-based track (bbl) of senior secondary vocational education (mbo), in pre-vocational (vmbo) tracks for children with learning difficulties and in dual programmes of higher professional education (hbo) go to school for one or two days a week and work under supervision in a company for the other days.
