People employed in the care sector

Working people are people who have paid jobs for at least one hour a week. The employed labour force uses a narrower definition, i.e. at least twelve hours a week. Working people include employees, self-employed, people working on a freelance basis and home helpers.

The first part of this article refers to care in a broad sense and includes businesses and institutions whose main activity is providing care and businesses and institutions which provide care as a secondary activity and have contact with patients or clients or are engaged in care policy or care management in care-related sectors. It is the narrow definition of care as used in the publication of figures on care expenditure and financing (StatLine table Care accounts).
