Rapid unemployment growth
Adjusted for seasonal variation, 643 thousand people in the Netherlands were unemployed in March 2013, an increase by 30 thousand relative to February this year. Unemployment has risen almost continuously since mid-2011, but the unemployment rate climbed more rapidly over the past few months. In recent months, the number of unemployed in the age category 25-44 grew most notably.

In March this year, 8.1 percent of the Dutch labour force were unemployed. The unemployment rate among men and women was approximately the same. With 15.7 percent, the highest unemployment rate in March was observed among 15 to 24-year-olds. The rate among 25 to 44-year-olds stood at 7.4 percent and unemployment among over-45s was 6.9 percent.
