The bachelor-master system was introduced in Dutch higher education in the study year 2002/’03. One consequence of the introduction was that most master and post-master education programmes in university education were split up in a bachelor programme lasting 3 years and a master programme lasting 1, 2 or 3 years. The bachelor and master stages are concluded with a degree. Various disciplines were introduced in the bachelor-master system much later, e.g. medicine, dentistry and veterinary sciences.
