Health care costs covered by the basic health insurance policy

The average costs refer to health care covered by the basic health insurance, which is compulsory under the Health Insurance Act (Zvw). Persons who are not Zvw-liable and persons who are Zvw-liable, but not insured for whatever reason are not included in the figures presented in this article figures.

Only costs paid by the health insurer are included. Amounts the insured have to pay (excess fee) towards a successful claim are also included.  

Vektis C.V., an organisation which collects and analyses data about the costs and quality of health care in the Netherlands provides data on per capita health care costs to Statistics Netherlands and Statistics Netherlands adds data on ethnic background and household income of individuals and extrapolates data for persons who are not included in the database or whose data are considered implausible. As a result, data published by Statistics Netherlands and data published by Vektis may not agree entirely.
