The data on birth venue are taken from Statistics Netherlands’ Health Survey. All women aged 15-49 years are asked whether they have given birth in the last two years, and if so how many times and where the birth took place: at home, in hospital, or elsewhere. As the latter category hardly occurred (1.2 percent of births) it was not included in the analysis. Also, this article is based only on data concerning the women’s most recent birth. As the survey is a sample survey, the results are subject to a margin of error.
