Fewer jobs

In the second quarter of this year, 55 thousand jobs of employees (a decline by 0.7 percent) were lost relative to the second quarter of 2011. Employment was down in many sectors relative to one year previously, but the number of jobs declined most notably in public administration. On the other hand, employment improved in the sectors trade, transport, hotels and restaurants, in the sector information and communication and in health care and welfare.

Altogether (full-time plus part-time jobs), there were approximately 7.9 million employee jobs in the Netherlands. Converted to full-time equivalents, there were 5.9 million jobs in the second quarter, 0.8 percent down from the second quarter of 2011.

If seasonal effects are taken into account, the number of jobs in the second quarter was 16 thousand down from the first quarter of 2012.
