Terms of trade deteriorated

Dutch terms of trade of imported and exported goods deteriorated in June 2012 relative to June 2011. Prices of exported goods were 0.7 percent higher, prices of imported goods rose by 1.3 percent. Terms of trade had also deteriorated in the previous months.

June prices of natural gas, of which the Netherlands exports more than it imports, were up on one year previously whereas June prices of crude oil, of which the Netherlands imports a lot, were slightly lower. Nevertheless, terms of trade deteriorated, because the import prices of other goods rose more than export prices.
