Teacher training hbo

Three types of teacher training are distinguished in this article.
- Teachers in primary education require a bachelor’s (pabo).
- Teachers in secondary schools require a bachelor’s (second degree level) or master’s (first degree level) in a specific subject taught in secondary general education or mbo.
- Teachers in special education require a master’s in special education, focussing on teaching and counselling pupils and students with behavioural or learning difficulties and on students with a visual, auditory or communicative disorder.

Teacher training at the university level is not included in this article because there are so few first year students: 120 in 2006/’07 and 149 in 2011/’12.
